🎗️ Organ Donation — Give the Gift of Life

One organ donor can save up to 7 lives, and tissue donation can help up to 50 more. Registration is completely free, takes 2 minutes, and costs your family nothing.

⚠️ The most important step: tell your family. In practice your family's consent decides at the time — registering AND telling them your wishes is what truly makes you a donor.
🎗️
Register at the Organ Donor Foundation
odf.org.za — free online registration, donor card & stickers posted to you
📞
Call the ODF toll-free: 0800 22 66 11
Questions, registration, or reporting a potential donor (also after hours)

💡 Once registered, set "Registered organ donor" under Profile → Medical Information — it will show on your health card and emergency screen where paramedics look.

Almost anyone can register regardless of age or health — doctors assess suitability at the time. Your medical care always comes first; donation is only ever considered after death has been declared.

🏥 Hospital Group Tips
Netcare
Netcare has an online pre-admission — do it at netcare.co.za (or on paper at the hospital) at least 48 hours before a planned admission. It stays open until midnight the night before. Take this helper's details with you — the form asks for exactly this information.
Mediclinic
Mediclinic offers online pre-admission at forms.mediclinic.co.za, or visit the hospital about 48 hours before to pre-admit in person. Their form also asks for next of kin AND the person responsible for the account — sections 4 and 5 above.
Life Healthcare
Life Healthcare pre-admission needs: medical aid card with dependant code, authorisation number, ID of the main member AND the patient (birth certificate for a child), your doctor's and the referring GP's practice numbers, admission date, and the referral letter or ICD-10 + procedure codes. Details at lifehealthcare.co.za.
State / Government hospital (no medical aid)
Public hospitals treat everyone — fees are on a sliding scale based on income (UPFS). Take: your ID, your clinic card / referral letter from the clinic or GP, proof of address, and proof of income (payslip, or SASSA card if you receive a grant) so they can classify your fee correctly. Children under 6 and pregnant women are treated free; without proof of income you may be charged the highest rate.
